Pianist Portraits | Julie Haven

I had the pleasure of working with Julie, an extraordinarily talented pianist, for a photo session. The day turned out to be one of the most enjoyable and creatively fulfilling experiences I've had in a while.

From the moment Julie arrived at the shoot location, her energy was infectious. We spent the first few minutes chatting over her music, her inspirations, and what she hoped to convey through the photos. Julie’s passion for her craft was evident, and it set the tone for the entire session.

We started with some classic portraits, capturing Julie seated at a grand piano, fingers poised over the keys. Her natural elegance and deep connection to her instrument shone through effortlessly. As she played a few notes, I could see her slipping into her musical world, making it easier for me to capture those genuine moments of artistry.

To keep the atmosphere light and fun, we played some of Julie's favorite pieces in the background. The studio filled with the rich, emotive sounds of her piano playing, creating a relaxed ambiance. It was fascinating to watch her transition from a serious, focused musician to a more playful and spontaneous artist as the session progressed.

We decided to experiment with some more creative shots, incorporating movement and different lighting techniques. Julie was game for anything, laughing as we tried out various poses and setups. At one point, we even took the session outside, capturing her in natural light, surrounded by lush greenery. The juxtaposition of the piano's elegance against the backdrop of nature was stunning.

By the end of the session, we had a collection of beautiful, diverse images that truly represented Julie's personality and artistry. The relaxed and creative process allowed both of us to enjoy the experience fully, resulting in photographs that were authentic and full of life.

Working with musicians like Julie is always a rewarding experience. Their dedication to their craft and willingness to explore creative ideas make each photoshoot unique and memorable. As I looked through the photos from that day, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to capture the magic of her music through my lens.
